Why I took this photo - pt. 2

A picture from a small wedding showing a mother comfort her daughter who is the bride and who is overwhelmed with emotion

The bride was overwhelmed with emotion after the ceremony…

(Understandably so.)

This was one of my favourite weddings, as the vows and gifts that were exchanged were just so thoughtful. The groom had saved and framed a receipt from their very first date, and explained the importance of their lucky number, 21. They met on the 21st, had their first kiss on the 21st, and the day of their marriage? Also the 21st. The bride had written up a little note with the most heartfelt speech on it too, accompanied by little illustrations.

Now, back to the photos!

I noticed that the first person she went to after the ceremony was her mother. This is something I like to look out for because it tells me about who they truly love and trust. The mother knew how to comfort the bride, all whilst fixing up her hair and makeup.

I thought it was a beautiful moment. For me, shooting weddings isn’t just about showing the unifying of a couple. It’s about capturing the strength of the relationships that day.

After photographing lots of weddings, I realised I wasn't actually photographing the couple.
