How to have a wedding that doesn’t feel staged
Couples don’t realise when their wedding day starts turning into a production.
It builds slowly through small, unclear decisions that feel harmless at the time.
The big decisions come first - the venue, the people, the food. Then everything else fits in neatly around it - the florals, the timing, and the entertainment.
Then photography enters the plans. This is where it can change quick.
Getting the wrong photographer can really change how you experience your wedding, especially if you aren’t the most confident in front of the camera. You stop relaxing into moments because half of your attention is fixed on making sure the moment looks good for the camera.
It then turns into the photographer asking to hold your pose for “just one more shot”, or being asked to step away from your people (for what feels like forever) for “the perfect photo”.
The right photographer will help you feel like your day isn’t staged.
Your conversations continue without interruption, you can stay with your people, and you don’t get moved around for photos - no one is there directing your day. My most recent wedding was like this, featuring a couple who weren’t familiar with rigid posing. I let their interactions unfold naturally, giving them space to relax.
Your plans for your wedding do not need to be perfect for them to feel right. They simply need to give you the space to take it in as it happens.
